Health Care

OBTech, A medical infomediary was founded by Dr.Robert Lalouche, a leading Ob/Gyn practitioner. This product is directed towards other medical practitioners for instant reference and periodic updates.

OBTech-Pocket PC
This is a subscription service for downloading and viewing medical journals and articles. These articles are regularly updated and archived by the OBTech administrators.

The application consists of two distinct modules.

  • Pocket PC module: This utility comes in an installable exe targeted for Pocket PC devices. This consists of the main utility and a set of archived articles for new users.
  • Web based administration module: The administrator manages articles and categories in the web site.

Pocket PC Module
The Pocket PC module of the application is a utility to download new articles/ journals specifically designed for viewing on Pocket PC devices. Users can download the utility, install the application and download more articles regularly.

Search
The search functionality is comprehensive and is capable of searching depending on article titles, pre-defined keywords, or the entire contents of the article. Searching is flexible enough to search each of the tabs independently or in any required combination.

Configurations
The functionality of the Pocket PC application is highly configurable and the settings screen gives a very easy interface to configure the application. To conserve precious storage space outdated articles can be automatically deleted from the system.

Regular Updates (Synchronization)
The articles in the Pocket PC device can regularly be updated by the users. There are two methods to achieve this.

  • Manual sync
  • Auto sync (occurs in user definable frequency if the device is cradled.)

Auto sync
The Auto sync utility is triggered every time the Pocket PC device is cradled. The utility then checks if there is a sync operation due for that day. If yes then the utility proceeds to check for a active internet connection and sync operation is initiated.

During the sync operation, new articles are downloaded and outdated articles are removed from the Pocket PC device. The entire sync operation is performed as an atomic transaction.

Web Admin Module
The administrator of the site regularly updates the web site with new articles and journals. The data repository can be hierarchically set as categories and articles under the categories. The representation of the articles at the site is in a tree format.

Articles can be added in two modes.

  • Free articles visible in the Core Tab of Pocket PC, which are free for all users.
  • Payment articles which need proper subscription to view.

Technology
The Pocket PC application is built on the .NET Compact Framework integrated with SQL CE. The data transfer for synchronization is handled with Webservice calls.
